Public Works crews recently completed a significant paving project on Pipes Canyon Road! On December 16-17, 2024, our team paved an impressive 6,600 feet of roadway—the equivalent of about a 25-minute walk for most people. This project used 952 tons of asphalt.  To put that into perspective, if one person could carry 100 pounds at a time, it would take over 19,000 trips to move all that asphalt!

This achievement was made possible by the hard work of our Operations Crews from the Low Desert Region, including teams from the Apple Valley and Joshua Tree Maintenance Yards. This project is the first of two planned paving efforts for Pipes Canyon Road, making it safer and smoother for everyone who travels through the area.

A big thank-you to everyone who contributed to this successful effort! Your dedication and teamwork continue to make a meaningful impact in our communities.
