This year, the County began using a new technology called Automated Pavement Condition Index (PCI) Surveying to better understand the condition of our roads. With this system, specially equipped vehicles drive along County-maintained roads and use sensors to record detailed information about the pavement. These sensors can detect cracks, potholes, and other signs of wear, things that aren’t always easy to spot from a quick visual check. Thanks to this technology, the County can now review every paved County road every two years, instead of less often in the past. The surveys are more accurate and provide more detailed information than ever before. Having better and more frequent data helps Transportation Planning and Pavement Management staff make smarter, faster decisions about when and where to repair roads. The result is more effective maintenance, better use of public funds, and smoother, safer roads for everyone.
