Improving Access. Supporting Transit. Enhancing the Visitor Experience.

Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District recently completed the addition of a new Mountain Transit shelter near the gymnasium along Park Avenue, providing a more comfortable and welcoming waiting area for transit riders and park visitors.
The location is regularly served by Mountain Transit, making it an important connection point for residents and visitors traveling to and from the park, lakefront, and surrounding recreation area. Before the shelter was installed, riders had limited protection from the elements while waiting for transit service.
The new shelter provides a dedicated place to sit, rest, and wait while offering views of the lake and surrounding park. Its decorative ironwork was selected to complement the character of the area, adding an attractive feature that blends functionality with the overall appearance of the recreation space.
The improvement also supports broader accessibility and transportation goals by making it easier and more comfortable for people to reach the park without relying solely on a personal vehicle. For seniors, families, youth, and other transit users, even a relatively small improvement like a shaded and protected waiting area can make a noticeable difference in the overall experience.
Projects like this help strengthen the connection between recreation and public transportation while continuing to improve the amenities available throughout the District.
The new shelter is a simple but meaningful upgrade that adds comfort, convenience, and visual appeal to one of Big Bear Valley’s well-used community recreation areas.
