On November 1, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Works (DPW), in collaboration with the historic Roy’s Motel and Café, hosted a community clean-up event in Amboy. With next year marking the 100th anniversary of Route 66, this effort highlights our proactive commitment to preserving and beautifying the iconic highway in preparation for the centennial celebration.
Cleanup efforts focused on the historic Roy’s Motel and Café and surrounding sections of Route 66. The event was a collaborative effort between the 3rd District Supervisor’s Office, DPW Operations, the DPW Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), and Burrtec Waste. Burrtec provided 11 roll-off bins and two front-end loaders, while DPW supplied two pieces of heavy equipment and coordinated event operations.
More than 30 volunteers participated, collecting roadside trash and discarded tires. Together, the team removed approximately 100 tons of waste, which were properly disposed of at County landfills and recycling facilities—revitalizing this cherished stretch of Route 66.
Building on this success, DPW will continue similar clean-up efforts the weekend of December 13 at the Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Association, home of the historic Goffs Schoolhouse.
