Following heavy rains on September 12, 2022, Oak Glen experienced significant mud and debris flows. In response, the Flood Control District (FCD) collaborated with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to assess the impact and address the flooding risk resulting from the El Dorado Fire.
NRCS has committed to providing up to $784,851 in financial assistance, with an additional contribution of up to $237,834 from the FCD. These funds will be specifically allocated to debris removal and culvert cleaning in Oak Glen, to mitigate flood risks and minimize damages caused by the storms after the El Dorado Fire.
As of July 5th, the debris removal efforts have started, focusing on the clearance of the Birch Creek along Potato Canyon Road.
The primary objective of this work is to ensure the effective removal of debris and improve the creek capacity to mitigate potential future flood risks. By clearing the Birch Creek, FCD’s goal is to improve the overall resilience and safety of the area.
The FCD team is dedicated to performing the debris removal process efficiently while prioritizing the safety of all involved. FCD staff are working carefully to minimize any disruptions to the residents and businesses during this period.
