On November 1st, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Works (DPW) in collaboration with the historic Roy’s Motel and Café hosted a clean-up event in Amboy. Next year’s centennial anniversary of Route 66 posed as an outstanding opportunity to beautify this historic highway.  Efforts were focused primarily on local landmark Roy’s Motel and Café, as well surrounding areas of the interstate route.

This cleanup was a joint effort between the 3rd District Supervisor’s office, DPW Operations, DPW Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), and Burrtec Waste. Burrtec provided 11 roll-off bins and two front-end loaders while DPW provided two pieces of heavy equipment and staffed the coordination of the event. Over 30 volunteers participated by collecting roadside trash and tires. Approximately 100 tons of waste were collected and disposed at local County landfills and recycling facilities, revitalizing this historic point of interest. Similar coordinated efforts will be repeated the weekend of December 13th at the Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Association, home of the Goff’s Schoolhouse.
