The Department of Public Works has completed a series of upgraded signs and safety enhancements to prevent motorists from mistakenly entering Highway 138 from Sheep Creek Road in the wrong direction.

The concern was brought to the County’s attention by a local resident, prompting our team—working closely with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)—to quickly develop and install new signage and pavement markings for the exit ramp.

Several additional safety features were also added throughout the area, including:

  • New warning signs with red flashing beacons on Sheep Creek Road before the ramp.
  • “Do Not Enter” and “Wrong Way” signs at the wrong-way entrance, supported by physical barriers, “Road Closed” signs, and reflective devices.
  • Warning signs with yellow flashing beacons at Sheep Creek Road and Arrowhead Road.
  • Additional warning signs at Sheep Creek Road and Nielson Road.

These improvements are designed to enhance safety for motorists and reduce the risk of drivers entering the highway incorrectly, ensuring a safer roadway for the community.
