Fires severely impact the storm capture capacities of flood infrastructure for several years after each devastating event.  Storm flows carry burned vegetation, mud, and other debris into flood control infrastructure.  In San Bernardino County, the Line and El Dorado Fires burned 43,978 and 22,744 acres respectively.  Since emergency environmental permitting is limited to a short time duration, staff worked with the Army Corps of Engineers to obtain two (2) regional general permits – one for each burn area – assisting the District & County in protection, response, clean-up, and recovery from the Line and El Dorado wildfires.
