Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District recently completed improvements to the gazebo at Miller Park in Fawnskin, restoring an important park feature and extending its usefulness for residents, families, and community gatherings.

Located at 1178 Chickasaw Road, Miller Park is a 1.1-acre neighborhood park that includes a playground, basketball court, tennis court, picnic facilities, and the historic community building that once served as Big Bear’s original schoolhouse. The park and community building are also available for gatherings such as family reunions, meetings, and other community activities.

The gazebo is one of the park’s recognizable gathering features and provides a covered space for visitors to relax, socialize, and enjoy the wooded setting. Over time, exposure to Big Bear’s mountain weather had taken a toll on the structure and created a need for restoration.

The recently completed work refreshed the gazebo while maintaining its traditional design and character. Improvements included repairs and refinishing to the wood structure, railings, latticework, trim, and other visible components. The structure was repainted, worn areas were restored, and the overall gazebo was refreshed to provide a cleaner, more inviting space for park visitors.

The improvements are readily visible throughout the structure, from the renewed white woodwork and decorative lattice panels to the restored overhead framing and trim. Rather than replacing a familiar park feature, the District was able to preserve and improve the existing gazebo so it can continue serving the community.

Miller Park is part of the broader network of parks and recreation facilities maintained by the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District. Maintaining and upgrading existing amenities is one of the District’s stated goals and helps ensure neighborhood parks remain attractive, functional, and welcoming for the communities they serve.

The gazebo restoration represents a relatively small project with a noticeable community benefit, preserving the character of Miller Park while improving a space used for family activities, informal gatherings, and special events.
