Creating new traditions, getting families outdoors, unplugging from screens, and making lasting memories—that’s the mission behind a growing community movement led by Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca Jr., in partnership with the Bloomington Recreation and Park District, Regional Parks, and multiple departments across San Bernardino County. United by a shared vision, local leaders and community partners continue to champion outdoor experiences that bring families together and strengthen community bonds.

That mission came to life on Saturday, February 7, when the Bloomington community gathered at Kessler Park for a day filled with outdoor fun, connection, and celebration. Now in its fourth year, the event reached a new milestone, becoming the largest yet, with participation from more than 30 county and community partners.

Families had the opportunity to interact directly with a wide range of county departments, including the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, County Fire, California Highway Patrol, County Library, Public Health, Behavioral Health Services, Probation, Children and Family Services, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center & so many more.  Each agency shared valuable information about available services while creating welcoming, family-friendly spaces filled with games, activities, and hands-on engagement.

One of the day’s standout moments was the San Bernardino County Regional Parks free kite giveaway. What began as a calm, sunny afternoon soon turned magical as the breeze picked up, allowing children and families to watch their colorful kites soar high above the park—an unforgettable sight that perfectly captured the spirit of the day. Adding to the festive atmosphere, 104.7 Old School Radio kept the park energized with music throughout the event.

Kessler Park proved to be the ideal host location. With significant upgrades over the past six years, the park has evolved into a vibrant community hub—perfect for recreation, family gatherings, and exploring the great outdoors.

Local partners including Olive Branch, Bloomington Little League, the Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and West Valley Water were also on hand, showing strong community support and helping make the day a true community success.

Seeing so many children laughing, families connecting, and neighbors enjoying the park together underscored why this event has become a beloved Bloomington tradition. As the community looks ahead, excitement is already building for next year—because each time, this celebration keeps getting bigger, better, and more meaningful.
