We are pleased to announce that the San Bernardino County Flood Control District (FCD) has successfully secured $224,500 in funding through the California Stream Gage Improvement Program, administered by the Department of Water Resources. This grant will support critical upgrades and expansions to the FCD’s stream-gaging network across the County.

Stream gages are tools that measure the flow of water in rivers and streams. These gages are essential for understanding how much water is flowing in different areas, which aids in water management, environmental protection, and planning for events like droughts or floods. The main goal of this program is to enhance the stream-gaging system, ensuring better coverage and performance across the County.

Key highlights of the project include:

  • Upgrades to 44 existing stream gages, improving accuracy and reliability.
  • Reactivation of three stream gages at Wildwood Creek, Warm Creek, and Mission Channel, providing better data collection in these critical locations.

The funding agreement will cover the project period from execution through March 2027. A draft Board Agenda Item (BAI) and funding agreement will be shared with you shortly for review and execution.

This grant award underscores the FCD’s commitment to advancing flood control infrastructure and water resource management. These improvements will help us better serve the needs of our communities and prepare for future water challenges.

We are proud of this achievement and look forward to implementing this important project.
