The Department of Public Works recently completed a major roadway improvement project on Summit Valley Road, covering 5.4 miles from Highway 138 to the Hesperia City limit. The work included a double chip seal and fog seal application designed to improve road durability and safety.

The project began with the application of PMCRS-2H emulsion using a distributor truck, which was scrubbed into surface cracks using a drag broom. This was followed by a layer of 3/8-inch chip rock. After the initial layer cured, a second round of emulsion and a finer 5/16-inch chip rock were applied, creating a smoother, more resilient driving surface.

To complete the process, crews applied a fast-curing fog seal, allowing the road to reopen to traffic in just 30 minutes. That same day, the Operations striping crew restriped the centerline and edge lines, further enhancing visibility and safety for drivers.

This efficient and well-coordinated effort demonstrates Public Works’ commitment to maintaining safe and reliable roadways for the public.
